HCP Celebrates Caputo’s 8th Annual Chocolate Festival

11/22/2019

Caputo’s Market and Deli is the largest corporate sponsor of the Heirloom Cacao Preservation Fund, donating a percentage of the proceeds of their Annual Chocolate Festival to HCP over the past six years.

Caputo’s Eighth Annual Chocolate Festival was a night like no other. In the main Caputo’s Deli located in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, the doors opened to a steady stream of close to 250 chocolate lovers that had converged for a night of artisan foods and beverages, all of which were based with some of the world’s finest flavor chocolate provided by Omnom Chocolate.

The deli was transformed into a festive and beautifully decorated space with Omnom chocolate from Iceland as the primary theme. Every attendee passed through a short hallway with an art installation of quotes and diagrams conveying the important work HCP does to preserve the world’s finest flavor chocolate.

Caputo’s Annual Chocolate Festival highlights a special chocolate company each year, and 2019 was all about Omnom. A large chocolate tasting table was the centerpiece manned by the Omnom chocolate team. Omnom’s beautifully presented artwork which covers every chocolate product they sell could be seen everywhere throughout the gallery.

After hours of exquisite tastings and chocolate experiences, the evening ended with a few words by Matt Caputo, Omnom’s chocolate maker, and HCP board member Jacob Marlin, who spoke on the importance of HCP’s work and how appreciative HCP is for Caputo’s continued support. It was a night thoroughly enjoyed by all!

As bursary sponsors, Caputo’s has supported six of the 16 HCP designated heirloom fine flavor cacaos at origin. Their sponsorship has ensured that the challenging logistics required and technical expertise necessary to get fermented dried beans from origin to the tasting panel, and leaf samples and seeds to the USDA-ARS lab in Maryland for genetic analysis takes place for each submission.

Thank you, Matt and Yelena Caputo, for your tireless work to promote craft fine flavor chocolate throughout the world, and for your continued support of HCP’s mission.
